Teignmouth RFC 1st XV got the new season underway in their 150th-anniversary kit with a league defeat on home soil.
Opponents Winscombe drew first blood, Dearsley slotting a penalty to make it 3-0. Teignmouth missed a kick of their own and were punished with the away team scoring the first try of the game as well, the successful conversion taking the lead to 10 points.
A Winscombe yellow card gave Teigns hope and a chance to get on the board- fullback Mayne obliging and nailing his kick.
Another converted try and penalty for the visitors took them into the break with a 20-3 advantage.
Teignmouth began the second half well and continued to keep their heads high, but the next points of the game went against them.
A couple of sprints down the wing paired with a couple of conversions took the score to 34-3 and Winscombe were out of sight. They notched a final penalty and then the full-time whistle sealed their 37-3 victory.
