A NEWTON Abbot food bank is welcoming both new referrals and volunteers as it pilots a new project aimed at helping people develop their personal skills.
A small, independent foodbank based in Buckland, THAT food bank deals with around 2000 referrals every year.
The food bank, which is welcoming new referrals, is currently piloting a new project for people who want to further their personal skills by looking at budgeting and learning to cook from scratch.
THAT are also keen to recruit more volunteer drivers.
Volunteer drivers collect food donations from local businesses and donors, ensuring that those in need receive essential supplies, and are able to claim mileage to cover their petrol costs.
The Chairman of Teignbridge District Council, Councillor Rosie Dawson, recently visited the food bank to find out more about how they use their space.
‘The overwhelming message from the Trustees and volunteers I met was that people will be warmly welcomed and assisted without judgement, which is often a fear that prevents people from seeking help’ Cllr Dawson said.
