A ROAD between Newton Abbot and Torquay was closed for some time yesterday, Sunday, March 9, after a two vehicle collision.

Fortunately, there were no injuries following the incident, which happened on St Marychurch Road, near Plant World Nursery and Gardens.

Police were called just before 10am on Sunday.

Ambulance and fire also attended the scene.

Both vehicles were made safe by the fire service.

There were no injuries reported, Devon and Cornwall Police say.

The road was blocked and closed by police until around 1pm.

St Marychurch Road has become infamous for the number of accidents that occur.

Last year, a petition calling for improved safety on the road between Newton Abbot and Torquay garnered more than 150 signatures.

It came after a string on incidents, including one that saw a a telephone pole brought down after a car smashed into it.
