MORE than 250 pupils took part in Teignmouth Primary School’s annual community festival.

Dubbed ‘We are Teignmouth’, the festival brought youngsters out of the classroom and out into the town, taking part indifferent community-focused events as a way to give something back to Teignmouth.

So, for example, Year 1 pupils from Pine Class set out to clean the streets by carrying out a litter pick, supervised, of course.

Elsewhere, pupils decorated the Meadow Centre, tended to the grounds of St James’ Church, shared stories with generations past at Croft Lodge, created a special scarecrow to help local gardens and much more besides.

The school says it believes in being at the heart of its community, and keeping community at its heart.

Headteacher, Luke Marchant, has commented on how this is shown in the children’s excellent attitudes.

Luke said: ‘So many people have commented on how kind, polite and responsible our pupils are.

‘Events such as “We Are Teignmouth” week have certainly given them a chance to shine, and learn what a difference they truly make to the world around them’ he added.

Teignmouth Primary School has undertaken many community projects this year, everything from writing to hospital patients at Christmas to creating remembrance sculptures at Teignmouth cemetery for the anniversary of D-Day.

The school is always looking to be involved in further community projects to support the town, so if you are part of a community group interested in this, or are a parent looking for a tour, contact the school on [email protected]
