THE second phase of a cycling and walking route between Newton Abbot and Ogwell is progressing as Devon County Council (DCC) secure the necessary land.
Dubbed ‘The Ogwell Link’, the new route is being delivered in two phases, the first of which was completed in 2024.
Phase one included road improvements to Steppes Meadow, as well as a stretch of new active travel route, which will open once the second phase is completed.
And now phase two has got underway as DCC secure the necessary land.
A £65,000 funding pot, agreed by the authority’s Executive Committee, from Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton Garden Community also helps.
Once completed, the second phase will pass across a short stretch of National Trust land and a section of private land to link with the existing highway at Beverley Way.
An off-road route will take users to Buntings Close in Ogwell.
Additionally, a new shared road crossing over Totnes Road will improve access via Bradley Road.
Design work is due to be completed by the end of 2025 and efforts are being made to secure funding to construct the link, Teignbridge District Council said in its latest newsletter to residents.
