THE characters and creatures of fiction came to life at a Newton Abbot primary school as it celebrated World Book Day.

Today, Thursday, March 6, was no ordinary day at Wolborough CofE Primary School.

For it is not everyday that Oliver Twist, Dog Man, dragons, witches and many others wander the school halls.

It can mean only one thing - World Book Day celebrations were in full-swing.

A global celebration of books and reading, the event sees pupils, and their teachers, dress up as their favourite book character.

Characters from such authors as Roald Dahl and Dav Pilkey could be spotted at Wolborough, and through the town as pupils made a special trip to WH Smiths.

The event is a popular one for Wolborough, with staff never failing to come up with exciting activities for the children to enjoy, which this year included a Cluedo-style book hunt.
