COMMUNITY art leaders in Teignmouth are trying to make contact with the original creators of the town’s subway mosaics.
While the team from TRAIL Recycled Art in the Landscape were cleaning and restoring the artwork, they discovered they had been made by students from Teignmouth School several years ago.
Now, they would like to find the original creators to find out the inspiration behind them and make display boards to explain how they came about.
A spokesman for TRAIL said: ‘As part of our recent restoration of the beautiful mosaics in the subway, we learned that many of these incredible pieces were created by students from TCS School several years ago.
‘It was so heartwarming to hear from those who recognised their work while we were cleaning and repainting.
‘Now, we would love to connect with the original creators, the artists who once brought these mosaics to life.’
They are keen to find out what inspired the design, what the experience was like and how they feel about them now.
Any stories and insights provided will be turned into display boards to accompany the mosaics.
The spokesman explained: ‘The boards will add a personal touch for everyone passing by.
‘These boards will showcase the memories behind each creation and celebrate the connection between the past and present.
‘Please get in touch with us to share your story and help preserve the history of these wonderful mosaics for future generations to enjoy.’
