THE 80th anniversary of D-Day is being remembered by events across Teignbridge today.

In Dawlish, Union flags are flying outside premises through the town centre while a marquee on the Lawn is the centre of activities.

Singer Sandy Sparkle is entertaining locals and visitors with a selection of songs from the era.

Children from Westcliff Primary School read out a poem specially written by Chelsea Pensioner Roy Palmer, for schools across the country to read out at 11am.

Towns across the district are marking the occasion.

This morning at 8am in Dawlish, a piper started the day’s commemorations on the Lawn followed by a proclamation by the town crier and a flag was raised at the Piazza.

Later today, bells will be rung at churches.

And tonight beacons will be lit in Dawlish and locations in Newton Abbot and Bickington.
