THE SON of a stalwart of Dawlish Museum is to tackle a 145 bike ride to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice.
Retired nurse Jenny Gibson was chairman of the popular museum in Dawlish before her death from cancer.
Now son Will is in training for the bike ride from his home in Stroud to Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay.
He said: ‘After a decade long winning streak against cancer, last year my mum, Jenny Gibson, spent the last part of her life in the wonderful care of the staff and volunteers at Rowcroft Hospice.
‘In honour of mum and to help support the care of future patients, I will be cycling from my home to the hospice.’
Debbi Shotton, Rowcroft Community Fundraising Officer said: ‘This is such a wonderful way for William to honour his Mum, and we are so grateful that he has chosen to support Rowcroft Hospice in this way.
‘We rely heavily on voluntary donations to help us provide vital care and support to over 2,500 patients across South Devon every year. We simply couldn’t do it without people like William.’
Jenny’s husband Keith said she had trained to be a nurse at University College Hospital in London, before they moved to Dawlish and she had been a school nurse for the Helston and Lizard area in Cornwall.
Will will be taking on his cycling challenge on Saturday August 24 and Sunday August 24.
He has raised more than £750 of his £1,000 target.
