TREES will be planted along Queen Street by the end of the month, despite a slight delay, Teignbridge District Council (TDC) have said.
Seven Juneberry trees will be placed in planters - five at the far western end of Queen Street and two at The Avenue junction with Queen Street - come the end of March the council say.
Once the trees are well-established and begin to grow, they will produce white blossoms in late spring through summer and by the peak of summer the trees will have a leafy canopy and berries that will attract birds.
Elsewhere, the zebra crossing and road markings are now complete and benches will be installed this week, followed by the trees and planters.
Newton Abbot Town Council are providing the hanging baskets, which tend to be put up around May.
The Queen Street enhancements are currently undergoing an independent safety audit.
‘This audit is a standard part of delivering a highways scheme once works are complete and will pick up any remedial work needed’ a spokesperson for TDC said.
