MORE people have climbed Everest than run 100 marathons, so when Teignbridge Trotter Graydon Widdicombe recently finished the Belfast Marathon, the Trotters didn’t hesitate to mark the occasion by presenting Graydon with a specially engraved decanter.
Graydon’s journey began in 2010 when he completed his first marathon, the London Marathon. It certainly didn’t put him off, quite the opposite, he very quickly developed the bug for running marathons.
He’s competed in many European marathons and has even done the Marrakech Marathon, but his clear favourite is the Barcelona Marathon.
He set his PB while running his 98th marathon in Seville in February this year, crossing the line in a very impressive time of 3:06:14.
Presenting Graydon with his special award was the Trotters’ very own marathon queen, Sally Ingledew, a veteran of more than 230 marathons.
Also in the photo, pictured above, are some of the other members of the Trotters who have reached the milestone of completing 100 marathons.
Roger Hayes, club chairman and fellow 100 club member, said: ‘What Graydon has done is pretty awesome. He had to put his challenge on the back burner when Covid struck, otherwise he would have completed it a couple of years ago.
‘It was great to get some of 100 club gang together for the presentation. I think we must have run more than 1,000 marathons between us.
‘I’m sure Graydon has plenty left in the tank to push on from here and who knows even better that PB.’
So what does the future have in store for Graydon? He said: ‘Immediate future is get rid of a niggle or two, but other than that I have a large number of events I want to do still.
‘I won’t be “chasing numbers” as much, but I love marathon running and I love travelling, and the two are a good mix for a weekend away to visit places either in the UK or abroad.
‘I also still want to see if I can get quicker, so we shall see how that goes!’.
