Newton Abbot College’s Year 9 team beat 17 other teams to become champions at the South Devon Rounders Tournament, held at Stover School.
Placed in pool B, the talented players confidently moved through the heat stages without conceding more than three rounders in any one game.
Convincing victories against Dartmouth and Kingsbridge schools saw the college scoring 11 and 8.5 rounders respectively.
Remaining undefeated after eight matches, the college faced Dawlish Community College in the semi-finals.
Fielding first, the team performed incredibly well, with Imogen Medlam making some outstanding deep-field catches.
At changeover, Dawlish Community College had only managed to secure one rounder and the college put an end to their championship dreams, scoring an impressive six rounders in the second half.
In the final, the Newton Abbot girls faced Torquay Girls’ Grammar, who were also undefeated throughout their heats.
Batting first, the Torquay team scored an impressive four rounders, but in a tense second half, Newton Abbot College secured five rounders to be crowned champions.
