There were mixed fortunes for teams from Newton Abbot this weekend in their respective cup finals.
Whilst Newton 66 were edged out by Elburton Villa at the final stage of the George Belli Cup, Newton Spurs’ Reserves won 3-1 in their showcase fixture.
Paignton Saints were the opponents for Spurs in the Devon Senior Cup final, that took place at Coach Road.
Olly Critchlow opened the scoring from close range for Spurs with 22 minutes on the clock, number 10 Aiden Blackie assisting his fellow forward.
A mistake on the hour mark from goalkeeper Adam Feaver allowed Paignton to level proceedings but it were the substitutions that were able to turn the game back in favour of the reserves.
Kye Drinkwater made it 2-1 in the final 15 minutes of the final and he then put the icing on the cake in added time to confirm the result for his team.
This was a great result for Spurs’, powered on by the impact from Drinkwater off of the bench as well as Man of the Match Tom Johns.
