BOVEY Tracey AFC enjoyed a high-scoring win on the road in the South West Peninsula League Premier East on Saturday, November 2.

Torrington was the destination and with the game all tied up at 1-1 at the break, Lewis Perring stepped up to the plate to make the difference.

Having already assisted Neil Last’s first-half equaliser, he chipped in with a hat-trick of his own before assisting substitute James Boulton at the death, making it a 5-2 victory to remember for the Bovey man.

There was all of that and he even had time to fire an effort off target, smashing the linesman’s rear windscreen in the process, making it a hugely eventual day for Perring all round.

For the first time in a while, there are no midweek games in the league to worry about so Bovey head into their next outing, when they’ll welcome leaders Cullompton Rangers to Mill Marsh Park on Saturday, 9, sitting in 11th. With four wins and seven defeats, they are on 12 points and just one ahead of them is local rivals Teignmouth AFC.

The Teigns have had an equally turbulent campaign at times and so they would have welcomed their reprieve from league in action on the weekend.

They visited Bodmin Town in the Walter C Parson League Cup and now join fellow Mid-Devon side Newton Abbot Spurs in the next round.

Liam Jones scored the first Teignmouth goal of this 3-2 across the border down south before they then went 2-1 behind. The league website has accredited the visitor’s second to Ashley Donohue, the creator of the first, whilst Teignmouth labelled it on Twitter as “An OG from the Bodmin keeper.”

As the fixture ticked into added time, Hayden Roe proved to be a super sub with his last-gasp winner for his team.

Teignmouth have no game this weekend coming but will travel to Bishops Lydeard on November 16 in the SWPL.

Finally now, to the aforementioned Newton Abbot Spurs, who were the only one of this local trio to be beaten which certainly isn’t common.

Their visit to the high-flying Cully was the pick of the fixtures and it didn’t disappoint from a neutral view, with the table toppers snatching the three points courtesy of a late winner.

Toby Pullman scored on the day for Spurs after their hosts went ahead from the penalty spot but it wasn’t to be for Marc Revell’s men, losing 2-1.

This is just a third defeat of the campaign though and Spurs remain well-placed in fourth, having played two less than second-placed Okehampton Argyle and four less than Cullompton.

Middlezoy Rovers await Spurs next in the league after the mid-week St Lukes Challenge Cup with Okey.
