On one of the warmest days of the year and with temperatures approaching 30 degrees, Kennick Fly Fishers were out in the boats at Clatworthy,

Luckily there was a breeze which kept the 14 anglers a bit cooler than those fishing from the shore.

Between them they caught 63 fish for a bag weight of 133lbs; average catch 4.5lbs and average weight was 2.1lbs.

A dozen anglers caught their five fish bag limit.

The winner was Alex Hoare of Abbotskerswell with five for 17lbs 12oz; second Peter Brown of Brixham with five fish for 12lbs 3oz; joint third John Hern of Exeter and Mike Boston of Torquay, both with five fish for 10lbs 12oz; fifth Robert Gale of Buckfastleigh with five fish for 10lbs 4oz; sixth Paul Wicks of Ashburton with five fish for 9lbs 15oz.

The next round of the Snowbee Top Rod is on September 2 at Wimbleball Boats.

Before then, on Sunday, is Kennick Instruction Day which is free to all. Morning session 10am-noon; afternoon session 1pm-3pm.
