WORK starts on the £280,000 makeover of Teignmouth’s seafront play park from Monday.
The six week refurbishment of the award-winning play area should take about six weeks to complete and be finished in time for the summer school holidays.
The popularity of the park and its frequent use has resulted in some of the equipment being damaged and out of order.
The six week closure is essential to enable the refurbishment to be completed in the shortest possible time and for new equipment to be installed.
Residents will be advised of the refurbishment via banners on the fencing at The Den as well as through social media and the residents’ newsletter.
Contractors will be on site from Monday, June 6, and the park is expected to reopen the week beginning July 18.
Plans for the refurbishment were approved by Teignbridge councillors in January.
Paid for by levies on new house building, the work will comprise three new play zones, equipment ans safety surfacing.
After 16 years, the council heard the existing facilities had reached the end of their ‘useful’ life.
The new-look Den is expected to have an ‘access for all’ boardwalk which will add to the existing three specifically designed zones for toddles, juniors and young teenagers.
The wet play zone will also be refurbished.
