‘Our custody centres do not show any live football’ a spokesman for the force said.

‘We expect pubs to be busy later but please ensure you act in a safe and responsible manner, the national team gets a lot of people excited and many will be making plans to watch matches with friends and family.

‘However we are being very clear that alcohol is not an excuse for bad behaviour, win, lose or draw.

‘Alcohol can and will change people’s behaviour, with emotions running high, things can easily go from friendly banter to something more aggressive
