JACOB COUSENS, LABOUR PARTY:

THE South West is a region brimming with talent, natural beauty and opportunity. Let’s elect a dynamic team of Labour councillors on May 4th to unlock Teignbridge’s potential, keep council taxes low and protect our green spaces.

As your Labour councillor, I will:

Oppose overdevelopment: For too long Kenn Valley has been the victim of overdevelopment – your Labour Councillors will stop this.

Campaign to keep council taxes low:

Under the Conservative government, Britain has the highest taxes in 70 years. Residents are being hit hard by the cost of living, Labour councillors will help you and your family by keeping council taxes low.

Protect Green Spaces:

Labour councillors will promote rewilding projects that strengthen our biodiversity and protect our green spaces.

KEVIN ANDREW LAKE, CONSERVATIVE:

KEVIN lives in Exminster and has 11 years’ experience representing Kenn Valley Ward at Teignbridge (2008 to 2019).

As cabinet member for Environmental Services he increased recycling collections in Teignbridge from once a fortnight to once a week and invested in new lorries that could collect plastic and foil.

He also stopped domestic waste going to landfill sites and instead ensured it went to eco-friendly Waste-to-Energy plants. Kevin helped numerous communities groups, particularly those that cater for children and young people, and took action on dozens of local issues, including supporting residents after the terrible flooding in Kennford in 2012 and personally installing anti-littering posters to reduce the problem in key hotspots.

CAROLINE MAVIS MAY, CONSERVATIVE:

CANDIDATE chose not to submit a profile.

CHARLES JOHN SINCLAIR NUTTALL, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS:

FOLLOWING a career of 35 years with the British Council which saw him serve in central and southern Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and Latin America, Charles retired to Exminster where he was co-opted onto the Parish Council.

Since his election to TDC in 2019 Charles has focused on the challenges facing the Kenn Valley Ward as it expands and as planned developments around our community affect us all - traffic, access, health and safety, and on increasing demands for services, facilities and amenities. These issues will remain very much on Charles’ agenda if he is re-elected, within the overarching Liberal Democrat priorities of supporting the well-being of local people, communities and businesses, tackling climate change and protecting our environment, delivering genuinely affordable homes.

JOHN HUMPHREY PARROTT, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS:

I’M a retired Finance Director who has lived all his life in the West Country. During my career I have worked in the Local Authority, Private and Voluntary Sectors mainly in Social Care and Housing. I’m currently Vice Chair of Shillingford St George Parish Council. I care about people and the environment we live in and that’s why I have decided to stand for the District Council.

In the rural villages lack of transport, traffic speeding and a shortage of affordable housing are real issues. In the new housing estates that are being built around the edge of Exeter we need to help develop a sense of community and that the families who are moving in feel welcomed.

I am passionate about the environment and want to make sure that we do everything we can to ensure that it is protected for future generations.

LUCY ROCKLIFFE, GREEN PARTY

I have always felt passionate about social and environmental justice.

I feel it is important for the residents of Kenn Valley to have a local voice, and help them build resilience during these times of climate change and economic crisis.

This support includes supporting farmers in the Kenn Valley, and ensuring the new-builds in the area have green infrastructures, such us public transport.

A Green vote for Kenn Valley is a vote for protecting what we have, but also a vote for change.
