RAIL services have been temporarily suspended after a person was struck by a train near Teignmouth Train Station.
The British Transport Police stated: 'Officers were called to Teignmouth Station at 1.07pm today (13 September) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
'Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
'The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.'
One train is currently being held Dawlish Warren and others are waiting at Exeter.
National Rail has said that it expects heavy delays until 16.00.
Routes affected are as follows:
CrossCountry: Edinburgh and Plymouth / Penzance and Glasgow Central / Newcastle / Leeds and Plymouth / Manchester Piccadilly and Paignton.
Great Western Railway: London Paddington / Exmouth and Paignton / Cardiff Central and Penzance / London Paddington and Penzance + Plymouth.
Great Western Railway issued a statement: 'It is with great sadness that we report a person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked. It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop. Where we can, we will divert trains to run on other lines around the affected area.
'If you are onboard one of the services in this incident and are distressed by events, please do speak to a member of Train Crew for assistance. Alternatively, if you need to talk with someone privately the Samaritans offer a 24hr phone line available via 116 123.
'Replacement road transport has been requested as well as ticket acceptance on local bus routes. We will update here as soon as it is in place.
