A PROPOSED pizza outlet has been approved by Bovey Tracey Town Council.

At a planning committee meeting on Monday, members voted four to one in favour of the proposal with one abstention. However, their approval depended on several provisos.

The plan, which would see a Domino’s takeaway take over a disused garage showroom in Station Road, Bovey Tracey, will now go forward to Teignbridge planners who will have the final say.

After hearing from a member of the public who voiced concerns about competitive pressure being put on existing food outlets councillors discussed the proposal.

Their main reservations were the long opening hours – 10am to 11pm, noise, traffic congestion and signage. Noise was ruled out as a problem as there would only be pizza making facilities.

As long as the signage was illuminated from the front and corporate branding was discreet, that would be acceptable.

Despite the plans including four parking bays, congestion particularly would need to be addressed, as there were already issues with on-street parking in a narrow road, and customers for the busy town centre garage.

They passed the plans on condition the hours were reduced to 10pm, signage would not be back-illuminated, and double yellow lines were put on the street.
