RAILS and Ales is back for another celebration this August Bank Holiday weekend at South Devon Railway.
The four-day festival of steam and heritage diesel trains, beer and cider runs from tomorrow (August 25) til Monday (August 28).
Trains will be running all day during the weekend with departures from each end of the line, Buckfastleigh and Totnes, at 45-minute intervals throughout the day.
At Buckfastleigh, the railway’s London Transport Routemaster bus will be running trips to Buckfast Abbey and along to Ashburton, the original terminus of the line, every day of the festival except Saturday.
Dick Wood, of the railway, said: ‘Also at Buckfastleigh, the miniature railway and garden railway will be in operation, there’ll be traditional fairground rides for the children and lots more attractions, from the museum to the gardens and gift shop.
‘At Staverton, the midway point on the line, the beer and cider festival will be in full swing from 11am-11pm, 6pm on Monday, offering more than 60 different ales and ciders.
‘There’s more on offer at Staverton too, with a Pimms tent and wine bar, except Friday; a barbecue on Friday and Saturday evening with chilli on Sunday evening; the buffet car serving a variety of hot and cold foods and soft drinks; and, finally, a ‘just for fun’ quiz on Sunday evening’.
