A BARN with an asbestos roof is ‘well alight’ in Chudleigh as fire crews work to extinguish the blaze.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service say the situation is ongoing after the fire broke out yesterday, Sunday, March 30.

Several fire stations are present, including Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Buckfastleigh and Newton Abbot.

Crews are currently using water jets and compressed air foam attempting to extinguish the fire.

A spokesman for the fire service said: ‘This barn also had an asbestos roof so crews are having to implement special safety procedures to ensure they are not exposed to asbestos particles involved in fire.

‘Incident currently ongoing and will be updated when further information becomes available...’
