IT wasn’t singing in the rain but singing in the sea for Dawlish Rock Choir as they did something funny for money.
There was some wishful thinking in the sea off Dawlish as 20 Rock Choir members gave their rendition of Going Loco in Acapulco during their cold water swim.
But it was all in a good cause and the group’s efforts raised £600 in just a few hours for this year’s Comic Relief.
Wearing their red noses, the singers took to the water with choir leader Richard Toomer.
He said: ‘We had so much fun mixing two things we love doing - singing and swimming!
‘It was 7 degrees in the water this morning but that didn’t deter us.
‘We were delighted to fundraise for Comic Relief, a great charity, changing lives for the better.’
Rock Choir is the largest contemporary choir in the world with over 30,000 members from all over the UK. The entire membership will be fundraising this year for Comic Relief and the Devon Rock Choir was the first to launch their unique fundraising activity with this fun event.
Over the next six weeks, choirs will be taking part in fundraising activities including surprise singing flash mobs, 12 hr sing a thons, bake sales, comedy fundraising videos, concerts, fun sessions in choir rehearsals and much more.
Rock Choir is on a national tour of the UK with a show called You’re the Voice’, which is also fundraising for the charity, and the concert, will encourage audience participation.
Tickets are on sale now. The next date in the southwest is on the March 1 at The Princess Theatre in Torquay.
