A GRIEVING Teignbridge family are organising a second charity bike ride in memory of their daughter.
Danielle Cornish, from Ideford, died just after her 29th birthday, losing a ‘battle’ with her mental health.
The cycle ride on Saturday April 6 will be centred around Ideford Village Hall from where entrants will leave to tackle a 50mile or a 20 mile route.
Last year’s sponsored ride (pictured) raised more than £10,000 for the Samaritans charity which helps those at risk of suicide.
Danielle, who worked in Newport for the Office for National Statistics, grew up in Ideford and attended local schools before going on to study at Cardiff University where she achieved a first class honours degree in psychology.
Mum Debbie said: ‘Sadly in August 2022, Danielle lost her battle with mental health and has left us devastated and heartbroken.
‘We want to give something back to the Samaritans to enable them to answer more calls and help prevent another life being lost.
‘The ride is a fun day out for any ability but with an important message to raise awareness of suicide and poor mental health.
‘Danielle was full of life with so much more to give the world.’
Part of Danielle’s work for the ONS involved collating figures during the Covid pandemic.
She had a love of cakes and baking and even raised money herself for the Samaritans.
Debbie said: ‘Danielle loved her life in Cardiff and was always busy walking, baking, crafting, travelling and being a cat mum to Travis.
‘We will cherish all the memories we have made together especially those special family times spent in the sunshine on the beach in the weeks just before her death.’
This is the second year running the family has organised the bike ride with more than 50 people taking part last year.
Anyone not taking to two wheels can go to Ideford Village Hall to welcome back the cyclists where there will be tea, coffee and cake available for a donation.
