HAIRDRESSERS from one of Newton Abbot’s leading salons recently received training from a domestic abuse charity.
Staff from Andrew Hill Salon recently welcomed representatives from More Positive Me CIC, who delivered J9 training.
It is an initiative that aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse and assist survivors to access support safely by training professionals and members of the community to recognise domestic abuse and respond to survivors.
The J9 Domestic Abuse Initiative is named in memory of Janine Mundy, a mother of two who was killed by her estranged husband whilst he was on police bail; Janine used to sign her text messages J9, hence its name.
The initiative was started by Janine’s family and the local police in Cambourne, Cornwall, where she lived.
Andrew Hill Salon, who described the training session as ‘poignant, informative and inspiring’, is now among a growing number of Devon organisations to have received J9 training, including Newton Abbot’s Albany Surgery and Tozers Solicitors.
