THE man who has worked tirelessly through the pandemic to keep going Dyrons Journal, the Teignbridge Talking Newspaper for the visually impaired, going has been recognised in the New Year Honours. Brian Smith, from Newton Abbot, has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community of Newton Abbot.
RETIRED GP and community paediatrician Dr Jill Diprose, 76, from Dawlish, has received the British Empire Medal for her services to families with children with special needs.

POLICE had a strong presence at a location in woodland near Mamhead, just off the A380, on Saturday morning after what locals described as a rave. Nearby residents took to social media to complain of all night music coming from woodland. NEWTON ABBOT railway station hosted a pop-up barber shop on Monday where men (and women) could get a free haircut, a cuppa and a safe space to chat. The pop-up barber shop was hosted by The Lions Barber Collective, a Devon based charity aimed at raising awareness for the prevention of suicide, particularly among men, and was run in partnership with Great Western Railway.
MORE than 100 lunches were delivered to individuals in need on Christmas Day in Teignbridge. The combined effort of Homeless in Teignbridge Support along with the Alice Cross Centre, Volunteering In Health and Kingsway Residents Association saw volunteers deliver the dinners around Teignbridge, including rough sleepers.
