THE long-awaited £1.4million major revamp of Shaldon Primary School could soon be a reality after years of waiting.

The county council now looks likely to stump up the final £600,000 needed to modernise the Victorian building.

With the £800,000 already allocated, it means work could start next year, and the news has been greeted with delight.

New classrooms and an assembly hall will mean all the school facilities will be on one site, and children will no longer have to traipse alongside the busy and dangerous main road between the two existing premises.
