Arthur Day, of Ferndale Road, Teignmouth, has sent us a copy of his letter to Cllr Paul Burgess in connection with dog fouling in Teignmouth
Thank you for your e-mail of the 15th instant; it is most instructive.
You confirm that this is not purely a Liberal Democratic campaign; all council members have seen, and have concerns about the 'disgusting piles of excrement' covering the beach, the promenade and sea front, Lower Brimley and the play areas.
You report that 95 per cent of Teignmouth residents also volunteered that this was their main concern.
You are kind enough to say that I am 'very fortunate' to suffer a vision (impediment) which makes it impossible for me see the 'disgusting piles of excrement', which you council members apparently can see, covering the ground.
This must be a terrible advertisement for the Teignmouth tourist industry.
Shouldn't the beach lose its Blue Flag, and the promenade be closed because of the health hazard?
Luckily for the town's tourism, I am not alone in this malady. My wife walks with me along the promenade; we are accompanied by hundreds of holidaymakers, enjoying the sea front and the beach, plus visiting customers using the pier, the kiosks, and the cafes. Do they all suffer the same vision impediment?
Your reply to my request for 'enlightenment' merely repeats your claims that there are 'disgusting piles of excrement,' but we are all too blind to see it! You even ignore the picture of a supremely happy wedding group on the front in question, as produced by your friendly local newspaper.
Are you not making political capital in support of the nationally publicised campaign by Keep Britain Tidy? Their campaign is a national one, is it also political? Their medical research is readily available and accurate, but so is my eyesight! If your description were to be accurate we would be critical if the council did nothing.
Perhaps we should invite the BBC and ITV to bring their cameras to get a decisive point of view.
My wife and I join you in wanting to keep Teignmouth 'special'!
Our time has flown and we have lived here now for 12 years. In these modern, changing times we need to join together to protect Teignmouth from too much 'unflattering', self-centred change.THIS AND OTHER LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
