A NEW town is set to be built somewhere in Teignbridge – but the question on everyone’s lips is where?

Paperwork released by the district council revealed bosses at the authority are considering building a ‘new settlement’.

But the documents – part of a Local Plan review – failed to mention any potential sites across the district.

Lib Dem leader Gordon Hook quizzed officials about the pipeline plans at an overview and scrutiny meeting on Monday morning.

‘I want to ask a question about what is mentioned on page 6 of the executive summary about the consideration of a new settlement,’ he said.

Cllr Hook added: ‘I would argue that the people of Newton Abbot already think that the developments at Wolborough and Houghton Barton are new towns.

‘But on the consideration of a new settlement where might it be located?’

Business manager Simon Thornley insisted Wolborough and Houghton Barton – two sites which will see more than 3,000 homes built – were not considered as new settlements.

He added: ‘No location for a new settlement has yet been found.

‘In terms of the geography of Teignbridge, it is difficult to find a site for a new settlement, but if someone does have a better idea of where it could be then respond and let us know.’
