ASHBURTON town centre was a riot of colour last month and it was all thanks to the town’s Portreeve, Karen Turner.

She said: ‘One of my charities this year is the Rainbows, this is the starting group for Guiding for girls aged four to seven.

‘I organised a sponsored walk on around roads in Ashburton that start with letters in RAINBOW.’

The creative ramble began at Rew Road and finished in North Street.

Karen said: ‘This was very well supported by other members of Ashburton Courts, friends and residents and once the money is collected in I’m hopeful we will be around the £1,000 raised, so a big, big thank you to all who have donated.’

The money will be used by Rainbows to purchase a flag for use at Ashburton events and with other Rainbows’ expenses.

The Ashburton group are currently looking for more adult leaders as more leaders will allow those children on the waiting list to join.

Karen added: ‘When children from Rainbows or Brownies help at an event I give them a Portreeve’s patch and certificate.

‘I attended Rainbows and Brownies meetings a few weeks ago with my Bailiff, Kath Pugh when we presented Patches and certificates to those children who had attended Portreeve’s Sunday last November.’
