PARKING permits for residents of two Teignbridge villages are to be made avaliable following a vote by Teignbridge District Council (TDC), which also saw councillors approve a revised list of fees and charges.
A recommendation to approve a revised fees and charges went before full council on Thursday, September 28.
It was approved, but not without an additional amendment: that residents permits be made avaliable for the New Road car park in Starcross and the Fore Street car park in Kingskerswell.
This was a welcomed result for Cllr Jane Taylor, though the representative for Kerswell-with-Coombe took exception to some of the wording of the amendement.
The permit ‘takes away the hassle of feeding the meter each day’ part of the amendement read.
‘In terms of the Kingskerswell Car Park, the residents will be happy to know that they are being treated with equity and fairness’ Cllr Taylor said.
‘It was nothing to do with feeding the meter each day.
‘It was to do with not having the opportunity to have a reasonably priced permit, like other car parks across Teignbridge’ Cllr Taylor added
Interestingly, two other amendments: that the Sunday Parking permit for a full day remain at £1, with free parking in all our car parks after 6pm and that a blue badge yearly permit be introduced, were dropped - Cllr Keeling annoucning such in his opening remarks.
‘I will continue to fight to support local business both those in the village and across Teignbridge’ Cllr Taylor said.
‘Very soon you will not be able to access the heart of our town by car, with all regular vehicles being prohibited from Queen Street, from both the Avenue and Devon Square.
‘The Liberal Democratic Council need to wake up and smell the coffee, if there are any cafes still open!’ Cllr Taylor added.
Elsewhere, the New Road car park in Starcross will also have residents permits made avaliable.
Permits charges which apply at the Strand Car Park in Starcross will be the same for the New Road car park, as well as Kingskerswell’s Fore Street car park.
