NEWTON Abbot fish and chip cafe, Jacksons Fish & Chips, has been named as a top three finalist in the Staff and Training Development category of the National Fish and Chip Awards 2023.
The chippy based on Queen Street has been shortlisted from five to three, following a rigorous judging process, and is the only chippy within the region to make the cut.
Claire Quelvennec, who heads up Jacksons alongside husband Yann and daughter Megane, said: ‘I’m delighted to say that we have made it into the top 3 in the National Fish & Chips Awards 2023 Staff Training and Development category.
‘We are proud to support all our staff by providing them with National Federation of Fish Friers industry approved training to develop their knowledge and skills so that they in turn are able to support us in producing and serving top quality fish and chips for our customers to enjoy, safe in the knowledge that they are in good hands.’
Recognised for its strength with regards to developing its team’s skills and qualifications, the restaurant now has a chance of being named as the category winner at the ceremony in February next year.
The top three fish and chip businesses from across the UK will undergo a zoom presentation to place the finalists first, second and third; with the winner being announced at The National Fish and Chip Awards in February next year.
Hosted by The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), the ceremony will take place on the 28th of February, 2023, in London at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
The Staff & Training Development category is sponsored by Blakemans, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of sausage and meat products.
Andrew Crook, president at the NFFF, says: ‘As we get closer to finding our category winners, the standard across the board is extremely strong.
‘Staff and team cohesion is important to any business, so it has been great to see so many within our industry empowering their teams to prepare and serve excellent food within a positive and supportive working environment.’
