THE Muse-composed theme for the Olympics has not met with universal acclaim.
Some fans and critics have been less than flattering about Survival and one national columnist has been particularly savage.
Satirist Giles Coren in The Times took aim at the whole commercialism of the games, maintaining that the Olympic ideal has been fully given up on.
He asks if the organisers want to emulate 'the most venal, depraved and commercial debasements of the most vulgar sports on earth because that seems the best way to line their pockets with gold?'
He was particularly scathing about Muse frontman Matt Bellamy's declaration that the song is about 'total conviction and pure determination to win'.
