FRIDAY, February 24, will mark one year since the conflict in Ukraine began.
Newton Abbot Town Council will be raising the Ukrainian flag at 10am at St Leonard’s Tower in Newton Abbot, followed by a minute’s silence to reflect and sing the Ukrainian national anthem.
Following the flag raising, Revd David Brown will lead a special service at 10:30am at Abbotsbury Church; attendees will be able to light a candle and take some time to reflect - the service will be translated into Ukrainian.
The event has been organised by Newton Abbot Community Interest Company, who are supporting guests living in the local community.
Peta Richards- Jones from the CIC said: ‘We have put together this event on February 24 to allow Ukrainians and all other member of our community a chance to reflect on the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine and events over the past 12 months.
‘We would like to invite people from across the District to come along and show their support.’
