A MAN is alleged to have headbutted a police officer as he was arrested in Newton Abbot for drunk and disorderly behaviour after a number of fights broke out at pub closing time.

On their Facebook page the town’s police warned there were several incidents in the town on Friday night.

They said: ‘Most of you were tucked up in bed last night watching Celebrity Gogglebox or Glastonbury, you may have been having a nice evening with friends.

‘But while you're safe and well, our patrol teams were responding to incidents across Teignbridge.

‘Newton Abbot CCTV contacted us reporting a number of fights happening on Market Street as the licensed premises were closing, one male was arrested for drunk and disorderly and whilst being arrested he has headbutted one of our officers.

‘If you are out this evening, please drink responsibly as we are on duty all night.’
