A FOOTBALL club in Teignbridge is urging residents to get behind its plans to build a new accessible public toilet.
Bosses at Ogwell Youth FC are trying to secure a £2,500 grant to construct the facility at its Denbury-based home ground.
The playing fields, owned by Denbury and Torbryan parish councils, are used by three other sports teams, dog walkers, children and allotment users.
Members of the public are being encouraged to vote for the football team’s project in a bid to secure the £2,500 in the Calor Gas Community Fund Scheme.
A spokesman explained: ‘We want to create a new fully accessible toilet in a former store. The improvements will act as a catalyst to reinvigorate the playing fields and facilities allowing wider use and access for all.’
He added: ‘We currently have disabled committee members, parents and supporters with no access to a toilet.
‘We intend to strip out the store, line the walls and floors with insulation and hygienic wipe clean panelling install a toilet, basin, taps and handrails as well as a new door with a radar lock.’
The football team have also applied for a Rural Aid grant and a cash injection from county councillor Stuart Barker to help them reach their £6,000 target.
Plans are also afoot to redevelop the popular recreational ground with a new pavilion. Members of both parish councils are currently looking into the proposals.
