A FIRST time marathon runner has fully embraced the saying, ‘go big or go home’, as she prepares to take on the London Marathon, well, sort of.
Sarah Lakey, fundraising manager at KingsCare, a registered charity and Devon-based patient support group that runs a wide range of activities and support services for those in need within the Newton Abbot area, is hard at work training for her first ever marathon.
This marathon, however, is somewhat unique, in that it is a virtual one.
The virtual TCS London Marathon give those who, for whatever reason, cannot partake in the road race in London, the freedom to complete the more than 26 mile course their own way.
‘My route will see me run from Dawlish Warren to Exeter and back with a few stops on the way to get water and food from my family!’ Sarah said.
Since joining the KingsCare team as Fundraising and Project manager in June last year, Sarah has been blown away by the work delivered by the team.
‘I have been lucky enough to see first-hand the incredible work delivered by each team, service and project’ Sarah said.
Fundraising is not especially new for Sarah who, as a survivor of cancer, has spent time raising funds for both Cancer Research and Cyclists Fighting Cancer.
This time around, however, it is Kings Care, the company with which Sarah devotes her time that is to benefit.
‘It was an easy decision to raise money for local community charity KingsCare as they support people in our local community by asking the simplest of questions “how can we help?”’Sarah said.
