TEIGNMOUTH will have a cinema back next year.

The new Teignmouth Pavilions rising from the site of the crumbling old Carlton Theatre will be screening regular new release films.

It will be the first time that up-to-date films have been shown in the town since the Riviera Cinema closed some years ago.

Attempts to resurrect the cinema in the Riviera, with its superb auditorium, came to nothing, but now the latest blockbusters will soon be back in town again.

Nikki Small, recently appointed manager of the Pavilions, said she was working on a full programme of events, including a twice weekly cinema screening.

She said: ‘We will have all the latest films, only a few weeks after they are released in the major cinema chains. I am sure it will be very popular with locals and holidaymakers.’
