DRIVERS in Newton Abbot can expect further disruption ahead of a lane closure for gas works.

The closure will be put in place on Wolborough Street at its junction with the A382 from February 17.

Wales and West Utilities hope to have the work completed by the end of the month.

Programme Controller, Roxanne Whittaker, said: ‘In agreement with Devon County Council, and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, a lane closure is in place on Wolborough Street at its junction with the A382.

‘We are sorry for any disruption our essential work might cause.

‘We will be working as safely and as quickly as we can, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, we will finish on Wolborough Street this month, with the wider project across Newton Abbot completing in July.’

Since the beginning of February, Wales and West Utilities have been working to upgrade the gas pipes in Wolborough Street, predominantly in the pedestrianised area.

However, in order to connect the new pipes with the rest of Wolborough Street, the above-mentioned lane closure will be necessary.
