HALF a century ago this month, Brittany Ferries inaugurated its service between England and France.

The first voyage was on January 2, 1973, and their aim at the time was to connect people, facilitate trade and to enrich the region they serve both culturally and economically.

To mark the anniversary the company invited two people from each Twinning Association to take part in their 50th celebrations.

Representing the Dawlish Twinning Association were Dill Cameron and Angela Ollington- Browne.  

After checking in at reception the pair received name badges and went through security before going on board the Pont-Aven. Dill said: ‘Unknownst to us, two members of Carhaix Jumelage were waiting to greet us. What a wonderful surprise.

‘There were about 180 people at the event including the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, and the Mayor of Brest, Plymouth’s Twin town.The entertainment, food, wine and atmosphere was wonderful. We had a fantastic experience and left with some fond memories.’
