THREE friends are organising a fun run at Powderham Castle to raise money for Parkinson’s UK Charity.

Fundraisers Jayne Archer, Karen Towill and Ruth Lewin-Titt, from Kenton, have joined forces to support the charity after Ruth’s husband was diagnosed with the disease four years ago.

The fun run is their latest fund-raising venture, a quiz earlier this year raised £1,500 and the trio are embarking on the 160mile Outer Hebridean Walk in June.

The family-friendly charity fun run at Powderham Castle takes place on Sunday April 13 and participants can get in the Easter mood in costume, wear Easter bonnets or wear blue, the official colour of World Parkinson’s Day to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s research and support.

Ruth’s personal connection to the cause adds a heartfelt dimension to the initiative after her husband Mark’s diagnosis.

She said: ‘Mark’s symptoms began with unexpected freezing while walking and sudden falls.

‘Despite these challenges, he has maintained his sense of humour and faced each obstacle with incredible courage.

‘He is now unable to walk, which has been profoundly difficult for our family.’

Jayne thanked Powderham Castle management for helping them to organise the run.

She said: ‘They have been brilliant, nothing is too much trouble.’

The run will be over 1.5km for children under 12 and 3.5km for adults.

The children’s race will be led by Arlo, the beloved Powderham goat, who promises to set the pace.

Parkinson’s is the fastest-growing neurological condition globally, with approximately 153,000 people living with the condition in the UK alone. Currently, there is no cure.

Jayne added: ‘Participants can look forward to a day filled with fun, community spirit, and the opportunity to explore the beautiful grounds of Powderham.

'Whether running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, everyone is welcome to join in and make a difference.’
