AS a part of International Men’s Day, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) have highlighted some of its role models from within the service and a firefighter from Bovey Tracey is among those singled out.

An opportunity to raise awareness about men’s wellbeing, International Men’s Day is celebrated annually across the globe on November 19.

With this year’s theme being ‘Positive Male Role Models', Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have highlighted three of crew members it says are ‘amazing role models’.

And firefighter James Warner from Bovey Tracey Fire Station is among this three.

‘James is always smiling and nothing is ever too much trouble. He is someone who always helps others and strives for his community’ a spokesperson for the fire service said.

In his interview to join the service, James said that to be a firefighter was his dream and all he wanted to do was to help others.

Two years later, in 2020, James took the role of Road Safety Officer, bringing together his passion for vehicles and his skills as a firefighter.

Since then, he has created links between Somerset Road Safety and DSFRS that have helped save lives and make roads safer for everyone.

James is also DSFRS’ collaboration lead for road safety partners, including Avon and Somerset Police, Devon and Cornwall Police and Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

This comes after he received the ‘Unsung Hero’ at the fire services awards, dubbed the ‘People Awards, on October 2.
