A FIRE at a plantation in North Bovey today, Saturday, is believed to be deliberate.
Fire crews from Bovey Tracey, Chagford and Okehampton fought the flames shortly after 9am.
A Fire Control spokesperson said: ‘Local crews were alerted following a call to Fire Control informing of an underground fire at a plantation.
‘Upon arrival crews requested that an All Terrain Vehicle also be mobilised for access and a second Fire Engine for water.
‘Throughout the incident crews used the following equipment: One extended hose reel je; one fog spike; one thermal image camera.
‘They confirmed that an area of five metres by five metres had been burning underground and had spread to trees.
‘The cause of this fire is believed to be deliberate.’
The police have been contacted for comment
