A TRIP to London and two film shows were enjoyed by Teignmouth Community School students – but it was all part of their studies.
The sixth formers studying Spanish left bright and early for a conference at Conway Hall. They were given an introduction on film techniques and cinematography by Dr Carmen Herrero, a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University.
They looked at two of the A Level specification films in more depth – Volver and El Laberinto (Pan’s Labyrinth).
Tony Weston and Jose Antonio Sanchez gave an insight and analysis into the main themes and cinematic elements which make the films so great.
Teacher Sarah Dart said: ‘Students got a lot from these talks, including tips on how to structure the essay they will have to write under exam conditions this summer for Year 13, or next summer for Year 12.
‘They commented on how much they had learnt and how useful the conference was to their understandings of these renowned works. It was a great opportunity for students to practise the language, as the majority of the conference was delivered in Spanish, and to hear different Spanish accents.’
The day was rounded off by a trip to Oxford Street for some light shopping and a meal.
