MOTORISTS have met long delays along the A380 this morning with Exeter-bound traffic queueing back along the 5.5km South Devon Highway as far as Torquay. The queues have been caused by lane closures at Kingsteignton as emergency barrier repairs are carried out.

Work started last night to replace barriers which were damaged following a crash on the section of road near Eagle Farm.

More than 120 metres of the central reservation barriers will have to be replaced and lane closures are needed while the work is ongoing.

For the safety of the public and workers one lane will be closed in each direction to allow Devon County Council contractors to install the new barriers.

A council spokesman said: ‘Motorists are being warned to expect the possibility of delays and to allow some additional time for journeys.’

The lane closures will remain in place while work is undertaken throughout Wednesday and possibly into Thursday, but it is expected that the road will be fully re-opened by tomorrow evening.
