SEVERAL drivers were caught speeding in Bovey Tracey during a routine police operation.

Members of the Safer Camera Partnership team attended Le Molay Littry Way on Tuesday morning.

A police spokesman said: ‘The team were supporting requests to the Neighbourhood Police team from the local community concerned about the speed of vehicles in the area.

‘Unfortunately several vehicles were caught speeding, and the drivers will be receiving contact from the police.

‘Please remember it is 30 MPH for a reason and even a slight increase in speed increases the risk of severe injuries and even death.’

The crackdown is part of a force wide initiative to tackle the five leading causes of serious injury and death on the roads including speeding.

Some residents responded with requests for officers to visit other areas of the town at different times. One asked for checks to be carried out on vehicles wheel spinning on the roundabout and racing along Monks Way.
