ONE driver was caught speeding at almost double the limit on a road in Heathfield, police have revealed.

Officers from the Teignbridge Rural Neighbourhood Team carried out a speeding operation in the Heathfield with the help of our Speed Detection Officers.

In one hour, 40 vehicles were recorded exceeding the speed limit, with one vehicle caught doing a speed of 58mph in a 30mph zone.

A police spokesman said: ‘Preventing harm and saving lives is a core mission of policing and speed is currently a contributing factor in a quarter of all fatal collisions within the UK.

‘Please remember that Heathfield is also a residential area with pedestrians and vulnerable road users such as cyclists.’
