Roy Phillips, of St Joseph's Court, Carlton Place, Teignmouth, writes:

As we are now into autumn, when are Teignbridge going to start the essential repairs needed to our Den? Its present state, with many bare patches, is nearly as bad as it was following the Muse concerts.

Hopefully, this time the bare patches will be returfed and not just re-seeded, as I believe they were after the concerts.

Unlike Newton Abbot and dawlish, The Den is the only level open green space we have for some 16,000 residents, leave alone for any visitors. Our remaining green lung should, at all times, be regularly cared for. It is a vital and visual asset to our town and has earned Teignbridge enough money annually to more than pay for full time care.

As with the Carlton Theatre, which could and should be one of the major providers of badly-needed wet weather facilities, Teignbridge need to remember that some 30 years ago the then Teignmouth Players took full control of a building that was losing the district council more than £30,000 annually. Yet since that time and despite many years of sincere and earnest effort by the Players, nothing has been done to give them and our town a decent multi-purpose built building.

Most long-term residents know of some of the endless meetings, consulattions, discussion, focus groups, etc, etc. If talk were bricks, we would have another Taj Mahal.

If only a small proportion of the money gained from selling off this town's assets (like Brook Hill) was not to be reinvested in such a long, outstanding development – as well as in other long outstanding needs – then our town's future will further deteriorate into becoming a retirement backwater.

So why is this not a repeated town council agenda item, with fortnightly updates on progress made and reported to all residents?

And why aren't Teignmouth's Teignbridge district councillors continually vocalising this town's essential needs at every district council meeting?MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
