A MAN who stabbed his brother at the family home in Newton Abbot has been sent for treatment at a psychiatric unit in Dawlish.
Shane Poblocki was suffering from a severe bout of mental illness when he attacked his brother Dean on September 19, 2022.
He also poisoned four fish in a tank with soap.
Poblocki, 45, of Fairfield Terrace, Newton Abbot, pleaded guilty to wounding at an earlier hearing at Exeter Crown Court, since which his case has been adjourned repeatedly while psychiatric assessments were carried out.
He chose not to attend a sentencing hearing where Judge Stephen Climie imposed a hospital order with a restriction under section 41 of the Mental Health Act.
Poblocki will be treated at the Ashcombe Ward of Langdon Hospital in Dawlish on an indefinite basis and cannot be released without the approval of the Justice Secretary.
Judge Climie said he was satisfied the order was necessary after reading specialist reports from doctors treating him.
The judge also made a restraining order preventing further contact with the victim.
