AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a 15-year-old schoolgirl who was involved in a crash that killed three teenagers last month.

Ruby Wright-Campbell, who lived in Newton Abbot, died at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children on August 17.

She was seriously injured following a single-vehicle collision that took place on Haldon Hill at about 1.20am on August 8.

The short hearing at Exeter Coroner’s Court, heard Ruby’s injuries were unsurvivable after the vehicle she was travelling in with four other teenagers struck a tree.

Alison Longhorn, area coroner for Devon, said: ‘The circumstances are that Ruby was a passenger in a silver Peugeot 107 which was involved in a single-vehicle collision.

‘The vehicle left the carriageway on the near side and struck a tree.

‘Ruby was initially transferred to Derriford Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children where she sadly passed away on August 17.

‘The medical cause of death presently is hypoxic brain injury along with traumatic lung injury, road traffic collision and traumatic brain injury.’

The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to be held on a yet to be confirmed date.

Hanna Green, 16, and 18-year-old Oliver Weston also died in the accident.

A 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl both sustained injuries and were taken to hospital and have since been discharged.
